I have a few thoughts. I used to play in the Moors a little, on both creepside and freepside, but it's been a long time, so things may have changed from how I remember it.
On Creepside you don't get horses, so it's very important to earn maps so that you can travel around the map faster. Otherwise freeps can just camp one or two locations because they know exactly where you'll be coming from. This makes for very boring gameplay, as everyone just shuffles back and forth from one place to another. You can get a lot of quests done solo, but they go much faster if you have a small group, and that also allows you to have a chance at beating small groups of freeps if you run into them. Low-ranked creeps have very few skills, so they are very weak against freeps until they have ranked up a bit. I would recommend mostly doing quests to get maps until most people are at least rank 5 or 6, which doesn't take too long. Also, if everyone get their maps on creepside they will know where the creeps are most likely to pop up when they're playing on freepside.
On freepside, gear matters a lot. The other side will usually target either the healer or the squishiest person they can find first, so it helps to have as much morale as you can get. Also, creeps use orc-craft and fell-wrought damage types. To counter those you need a lot more mitigation than you need in PVE. Also, Audacity helps a lot. It reduces the duration of stuns, dazes, etc., and it reduces the amount of damage you take. So I think the priority on freepside would be first to familiarize new people with PVP and secondly to help each other get PVP gear.
Finally, a group that plays together is much stronger than a random group of people who happen to be standing next to each other. It makes a huge difference if there is a leader who uses voice and everyone follows directions. I've done a little bit of leading and I'm willing to do that, but if anyone else wants to lead, I'm happy to follow as well. I just think it's a lot more fun, and we will be more successful, if we fight as a team rather than a herd.
