Hey Knights!

A couple days ago, Tyvos, Astey, and I played around the Moors a bit. It was fun, and I think it could be more fun to consider setting up some fun Moors raiding.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Monster Play: The Ettenmoors, accessibly by Horse from South Bree's stablemaster, is a PvP location. Players can go as Freeps - Free Peoples, which is your basic LOTRO character. Or, players can create a Creep - a Monster like a Warg or Spider, and play that.

The Moors has a bunch of basic quests, plus both solo an group attacks on outposts and each other. For more info, check out: https://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Ettenmoors

  • We could set up 12-24 Freeps, with a good mix of DPS and healing.
  • We could set up 12-24 Creeps and explore that too.
  • We can discuss and try strategies and how to get at Moors equipment.

Say something if you are interested. . .

I have a few thoughts. I used to play in the Moors a little, on both creepside and freepside, but it's been a long time, so things may have changed from how I remember it.

On Creepside you don't get horses, so it's very important to earn maps so that you can travel around the map faster. Otherwise freeps can just camp one or two locations because they know exactly where you'll be coming from. This makes for very boring gameplay, as everyone just shuffles back and forth from one place to another. You can get a lot of quests done solo, but they go much faster if you have a small group, and that also allows you to have a chance at beating small groups of freeps if you run into them. Low-ranked creeps have very few skills, so they are very weak against freeps until they have ranked up a bit. I would recommend mostly doing quests to get maps until most people are at least rank 5 or 6, which doesn't take too long. Also, if everyone get their maps on creepside they will know where the creeps are most likely to pop up when they're playing on freepside.

On freepside, gear matters a lot. The other side will usually target either the healer or the squishiest person they can find first, so it helps to have as much morale as you can get. Also, creeps use orc-craft and fell-wrought damage types. To counter those you need a lot more mitigation than you need in PVE. Also, Audacity helps a lot. It reduces the duration of stuns, dazes, etc., and it reduces the amount of damage you take. So I think the priority on freepside would be first to familiarize new people with PVP and secondly to help each other get PVP gear.

Finally, a group that plays together is much stronger than a random group of people who happen to be standing next to each other. It makes a huge difference if there is a leader who uses voice and everyone follows directions. I've done a little bit of leading and I'm willing to do that, but if anyone else wants to lead, I'm happy to follow as well. I just think it's a lot more fun, and we will be more successful, if we fight as a team rather than a herd.

I am definitely in for Moors play!

I will spend some time and prepare some words on my thoughts about this (probably in a Word document or similar) and when done will copy it into a post.

There is a good deal to say on the matter and preparation, enabling in-game voice (so you can hear the leader's commands), and following the designated leader is essential! More on this at a later time.

Astey.

Alrighty, created a new thread, Basics of the Moors. Hopefully that will assist new Moors players, as well as engender more interest in the Moors so we can do Moors runs as a kin. 😎

Hey guys!

I am definitely up for some Moors raids! I know a bit about the Moors and have been playing there freepside off and on over the years. Never played creepside, but hey, I'm open to that too. It would be great to get out there more regularly!

Regarding Creepside I have 3 creeps - 2 really low level and one that is about R5 (also low I guess). Don't play them much at all. But if a tribe is arranged, well it can simply be added to the one that I am in as I am its leader - its the remains of the tribe from my previous kinship of the Foreign Legion and is called Deserters. I suppose it depends on if there is any benefit to a tribe that has been around for a while like with kinships.

But if that tribe is used as the basis and then it is deemed that a different name for the tribe is desired then I don't mind changing the name to whatever it is that is selected. Maybe a spin on Runic Knights but with a negative connotation if you get my meaning. That's how we came up with Deserters - those who deserted from the Foreign Legion to join the creeps.

Anyways, just some little thoughties.

It seems like the next step is to figure out when people would be available for PvMP, and pick a day and time that works for most of them. If you are interested, let us know what times would work for you. I'm available most weekends. I might be available some evenings during the week before about 10pm server time.

I been talking with a few members about starting to do more moors raiding and I was wondering how much interest there would be for me to lead a group through the moors about once a week. I could teach the basics of the moors and it is a lot of fun with a large group of people watching your back.

If you could respond and let me know if you are interested that would be great.

I'm interested in playing in the Moors every once in a while. The hard part is coming up with a time that works for most people. I'm mostly only able to play early evenings server time during the week, but I have more time on the weekends.
